Sono arrivata a Cuba per la prima volta all'inizio del 1991. Dopo pochi giorni all'Havana, ero riuscita ad avere tutti i permessi possibile per muovermi e fotografare. Ero li per il IV CONGRESSO del partito comunista cubano, per la prima volta mi trovai davanti a Fidel e lo fotografai con immensa emozione.
Cuba mi piaceva, la gente era cordiale e io volevo restarci almeno sei mesi l’anno. E così per un periodo la raccontai in lungo e in largo fotografando storie di donne e di eccellenze varie. Ma i giornali italiani non erano interessati a un dittatore e tanto meno alle mie storie. Grazie alla Giornalista Alessandra Riccio, corrispondente italiana a Cuba prima per il Manifesto e poi Per l'Unita', iniziai a conoscere un prezioso mondo di scrittori poeti, cantanti, artisti Cubani e sempre di più mi innamorai di quel mondo.
Dall'arrivo del Papa a Cuba, l'attenzione della stampa cambiò velocemente, e anche per me che finalmente inizia a pubblicare e raccontare le tante storie che valeva la pena mostrare al mondo.
Gli Stati Uniti ancora oggi dopo più di venti anni mi negano l’ingresso in America per essere stata una donna fotografa, innamorata di Cuba.

I arrived in Cuba for the first time at the beginning of 1991. After a few days in Havana, I managed to get all the possible permits to move around and take pictures. I was there for the IV CONGRESS of the Cuban Communist Party, for the first time I found myself in front of Fidel and I photographed him with immense emotion.
I liked Cuba, the people were friendly and I wanted to stay there at least six months a year. And so for a while I told it far and wide by photographing stories of women and various excellences. But the Italian newspapers weren't interested in a dictator and even less in my stories. Thanks to the journalist Alessandra Riccio, Italian correspondent in Cuba first for the Manifesto and then for l'Unita', I began to know a precious world of Cuban writers, poets, singers, artists and more and more I fell in love with that world.
Since the Pope's arrival in Cuba, the attention of the press changed quickly, and also for me who finally begins to publish and tell the many stories that were worth showing to the world.
The United States still today after more than twenty years denies me entry to America for being a woman photographer, in love with Cuba.
