Gli angeli della Medina e' un reportage realizzato per Focus Germania, tra moda e rivoluzione culturale che nasce dall'incontro di Shobha e la giornalista Petra Reski con Oumou-Sy, stilista senegalese analfabeta, che ha fatto della creatività uno strumento di lotta e di emancipazione femminile.
Un oltrepassare le barriere convenzionali, un percorrere mille confini restando immobili, una voglia di comunicare una condizione che diviene metafora per il progressivo e lento cammino di un popolo che lotta per affermare il proprio diritto di "essere".
Un piccolo popolo gli abitanti della "Medina di Dakar", protagonisti del progetto, che una volta l'anno si trasformano, in una comunità creativa che, attraverso la sua geniale regista, diviene un'esperienza rivoluzionaria e unica.

Shobha, con questo reportage vince per la seconda volta il World Press Photo nel 2002

The angels of the Medina is a project realizes for Focus Germany, between fashion and cultural revolution that was born from Shobha and the journalist Petra Reski with Oumou-Sy, Senegalese fashion designer illiterate, who has made creativity a tool of struggle and empowerment of women.
A way to overstep beyond conventional barriers, tread a thousand borders staying still, a desire to communicate a condition that becomes a metaphor for the gradual and slow journey of a people struggling to assert its right to "be".
A small people, the inhabitants of "Medina of Dakar", protagonists of the project, that once a year they transform, in a creative community that, through its brilliant director, becomes a revolutionary and unique experience.
