San Luca è il paese dei fantasmi: tutti nascosti o in fuga. Nessuno per le strade, un anziano si rifornisce d'acqua nella fontanella e un ragazzo con problemi mentali suona l'armonica. Ci fermiamo davanti al cancello della famiglia Pelle,i Pelle, noti anche come Pelle-Vottari, sono una 'Ndrina del paese di San Luca. Sono tra le 'ndrine più influenti della 'ndrangheta, l'anello di congiunzione tra le famiglie rivali Nirta-Strangio e Pelle-Vottari "frunzu". La giornalista Petra Reski prende i suoi appunti mentre io scatto qualche foto, pochi minuti dopo, vediamo arrivare un gruppo di persone uscire dalla casa dei Pelle gridandoci contro, ci infiliamo in macchina, chiudiamo le sicure, ma non riusciamo a far partire la macchina perche' il gruppo ci sta circondando e strattonando la nostra macchina, malamente.Per nostra fortuna la polizia di sorveglianza in quel preciso istante passava da quel vicolo senza uscita per i soliti controlli, forse ci sorvegliava, non so...sicuramente grazie alla loro presenza ci siamo salvate da un brutto linciaggio e siamo riuscite ad andar via di corsa con il fiato sospeso e le gambe tremanti.
Un racconto di atmosfere pesanti, di silenzi paura e tensioni, di memorie violenti e di morti ammazzati.
Mentre siamo in quella zona, la polizia ci accompagna al nuovo cimitero, ci sono lavori in corso proprio nella cappella dei Pelle, li a fianco ci sono seppelliti i corpi dei giovani uccisi nella strage di Duisburg.
Visitiamo l'Aspromonte, Santuario della Madonna di Polsi, un luogo con una natura da mozzafiato.
Nella Chiesa Madre di San Luca Evangelista, Don Pino Strangio celebra la sua messa . In chiesa ci sono solo donne e bambini e i familiari delle vittime della strage di Duisburg. Don Pino Strangio, «Il “padrone” del santuario che piace alla ‘Ndrangheta”» ex canonico del santuario di Polsi, è attualmente imputato nel maxiprocesso “Gotha” per concorso esterno in associazione mafiosa e violazione della legge Anselmi aggravata dall’aver favorito la ‘Ndrangheta.
L'ultimo omicidio a San Luca, a Natale del 2006: una donna del clan Nirta che aveva solo 33 anni, trucidata sulla porta di casa. Francesco Pelle, il boss di San Luca, uno dei protagonisti della faida che ha insanguinato il piccolo paese dell’Aspromonte, è di nuovo latitante “Ciccio Pakistan“, a Milano con l’obbligo di dimora, ha fatto perdere le sue tracce dopo che la Cassazione, una quindicina di giorni fa, aveva rigettato il suo ricorso contro la condanna all’ergastolo perché considerato il mandante della strage del Natale 2006.Episodio maturato nell’ambito della faida e che rappresenta il prologo dell’agguato di Duisburg (Germania) del Ferragosto successivo in cui furono uccise sei persone. Una strage maturata nell'ambito della faida di San Luca tra il gruppo dei Nirta-Strangio e il contrapposto schieramento dei Pelle-Vottari-Romeo al quale appartenevano le vittime. E' la notte tra il 14 e il 15 agosto del 2007, quando a Duisburg, cittadina della Germania occidentale, già meta di tanti emigranti italiani, si consuma la strage. Tommaso Venturi, 18 anni, Francesco e Marco Pergola 22 e 20 anni, Francesco Giorgi, 17 anni, Marco Marmo, 25 anni, e Sebastiano Strangio, 39 anni, vengono uccisi a colpi di mitraglietta davanti al ristorante-pizzeria 'Da Bruno' di proprietà della famiglia Strangio. Una famiglia importante a San Luca. I sei morti di Duisburg sono infatti la risposta all'omicidio di Maria Strangio, uccisa il giorno di Natale del 2006 in un agguato indirizzato in realtà al marito della donna, Giovanni Luca Nirta, e a Francesco Colorisi, rimasto ferito in quell'occasione insieme al minorenne Domenico Nirta.
Naturalmente il sanguinoso scontro fra i clan Pelle-Vottari-Romeo e gli Strangio-Nirta nasconde anche una battaglia per il controllo del territorio la ferrea volontà delle due cosche d'imporre il proprio predomino a San Luca, ritenuta la culla della ‘ndrangheta anche in senso figurato, con le annuali riunioni dei boss di tutte le cosche nel Santuario di Polsi in occasione della festa della Madonna della Montagna. Un predominio cercato, però, soprattutto per i ritorni economici che ne derivano nella gestione degli affari sporchi. E a San Luca qualcuno comincia a temere. In libertà, infatti, si trova anche Giovanni Luca Nirta, scarcerato dopo avere espiato una condanna.
È quanto ritiene il capo della procura antimafia di Catanzaro Nicola Gratteri, sentito a margine di un convegno con gli studenti a Catanzaro "La gente di San Luca sta cominciando a capire che non si può continuare a essere additati solo come il paese della 'ndrangheta.
«Che a San Luca si torni al voto e che i cittadini possano finalmente scegliere i propri rappresentanti è un fatto importante e positivo».
