Nel quartiere multietnico di Ballarò, cresce il fenomeno delle corse clandestine di cavalli con giovani e minori, dietro al quale si nasconde anche la regia della criminalità organizzata. I cavalli vivono rinchiusi in stalle abusive, alcuni destinati alle corse clandestine, spesso tenuti chiusi con catene e grossi lucchetti.

© PalermoToday in spazi ristretti all’interno delle palazzine del quartiere dove abita la gente, e in seguito sono destinati alle corse clandestine. Generalmente ci si riunisce all'alba o nelle prime ore del pomeriggio, muniti di cavallo, spesso dopati, i fantini, perlopiù giovani ragazzi montano su cavalli di media statura, il quartiere si anima tutt’intorno, i cavalli danno il via a una corsa folle sull’asfalto, incitati dal tifo dei giovani del quartiere. Una volta che i cavalli non sono più adatti a correre, sono eliminati con un colpo di pistola e spesso trovati sull’asfalto in un angolo di città o rivenduti al macello.

In multi-ethnic district of Ballarò in the historic center of Palermo, increases the phenomenon of illegal horses racing with the young generation, behind which hides the direction of racquet. The horses live locked up in illegal stables, in confined spaces within the buildings where people live and then are allocated to illegal horses racing. Usually they meet at sunrise or in the early hours of the afternoon equiped of horse, convenientely doped, the jockeys, mostly young boys ride on horses of medium height, the district comes alive all around, the horses lead off to a crazy race on the asphalt, with the cheer of the young neighbourhood. Once the horses are no longer suitable to run, are made out with a pistol shot or resold to the slaughterhouse.
